He\u2019s an oak leaf carved in Douglas fir.
He\u2019s wise and very chill. 
If I were a leaf, Oakford would be a leaf I\u2019d hang out with for sure.
Fall is here and it\u2019s my favorite season. In fact, I\u2019m considering doing a leaf series of carvings. 
Oakford is 11 inches tall & 8 inches wide.

She can rule your kingdom too.
The Queen is carved in maple driftwood. At 10 inches tall, she\u2019s small but mighty.

“Leonardo da Vinci” is carved into the paper of five volumes of Encyclopedia Britannica \/ 1957 Edition. He is within these actual volumes as I try to include my subjects in all of my book carvings. This carving is based on the well-known self-portrait sketch done in red chalk on paper. Since these carvings are done in actual books, I have the opportunity to reveal text that I feel is relevant to my subject even though the text is not actually in context to the subject. Leonardo da Vinci was a scientist as well as an artist. He lived and worked in a time when religion was more prominent and powerful than politics or science. I have found both within these volumes. So, on the right side pages of the piece I have revealed the words “Catholic Truth” and on the left side pages I’ve revealed “Hydrostatic Equilibrium” which is the balanced state of fluid and a basic of physics. Revealing text within these books is a fun inclusion when the opportunity presents itself.
There is another interesting aspect of this piece in my opinion. The finish I applied darkened the carved paper portion giving it the appearance of grey stone. I love it when I’m treated with unexpected and wonderful surprises that enhance my work.

This is Bucky.
Bucky is a little different. Please allow me to explain.
Bucky is a collaborative effort between me and a Beaver. I capitalized \u201cBeaver\u201d out of respect because I don\u2019t know the actual beaver\u2019s name. Anyway, I found this branch on the shore of the Harpeth River in Kingston Springs, TN. I was extremely careful to keep it exactly the length and condition I found it. The ends were cut and the bark was removed by my unknown but obviously \u201cbusy\u201d and extremely talented collaborative friend. Every mark (including the cut ends except where I jumped in to do my thing) was carved by my new Rodent friend.
Bucky is 24 inches (2 feet tall).

He is small but mighty. He was once mauled by a rabid squirrel and lived to tell about it. A chipmunk family took him in and nursed him back to health. He said he is forever in their debt and is now the godfather of little Charlie Chipmunk. Samuel has many stories of the wilderness and is happy to share them.

Remus here is a colorful one, personality wise and physically.  
He\u2019s kinda lonely and in search of a new life. Most of his friends joined the Wood Civil Service a while back. They are proud Fence Posts. Remus was a little too small to join so he focused on entomology (the \u201cbranch\u201d of zoology concerned with the study of insects). Which was quite ambitious since red cedar is a natural insect repellent. Bugs just don\u2019t like him. But that didn\u2019t discourage him. And now he\u2019s ready to retire and just hang out with a human family.

This is Hooter the Great Horned Owl.
Hooter is a hopeless hooligan who has hay fever, a hernia and occasional heartburn after having hare for supper. He has a slight hangover from mixing a Highball, Hot Buttered Rum and a Hairy Naval last night but he\u2019s happy. A little Hair of the Dog might help.
Anyway, Hooter is carved in white oak.
He\u2019s a pretty big fella at 35 inches tall, 14 inches wide, 3-1\/2 inches thick.
He can be hung outside but advised to hang in the shade out of direct sunlight.
Since he is a slab of raw wood, he will have surface cracks. There is no way to stop that. However, he is sealed with Spar Urethane to reduce cracking and protect from UV.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n

But it\u2019s time for him to retire and live the good life.

Pippin is a Wood Gnome. No, he does not bake cookies in tree trunks. 
I feel I have to be completely honest with you guys. He makes moonshine.
And he\u2019s really good at it!
I have a feeling he had something to do with Bert\u2019s party. He\u2019s the last guy I posted. If you read that story, you\u2019ll understand completely. Anyway, Pippin\u2019s moonshine is made of all natural ingredients. Like tree bark, moss, hallucinogenic mushrooms (of course), raw honey and squirrel poop, you know\u2026all natural ingredients. It\u2019s almost a health drink!
He\u2019s a very happy, chill and talented dude.
